Old
Man Saltbush seedlings require a sunny position with
good air circulation around the plants.
Prepare the soil well by digging
deeply or mechanically deep rip the soil for the larger
areas. This is so the roots are able to establish themselves
freely. Ensure that the area to be planted is weed free
with no extra competition to the saltbush seedlings.
Allow about one metre between each
seedling and once planted, water the seedlings immediately
from above with a watering can or low pressure watering
equipment.
Monitor the seedlings intensely until
they are well established:
1. During the first weeks give
special attention to the moisture levels around the
seedling roots and give them additional water as they
require for the season, (do not allow roots to dry
out excessively).
2. Keep the surroundings of the
seedlings weed free to prevent further competition
to the Old Man Saltbush seedlings.
As the seedlings grow trim the growth
tips for a much bushier appearance. Commercially they
may have the first light grazing when the plants are
between 50 to 100 centimetres high. |
